A classroom alive with the sound of music

Public education in Puerto Rico is a disaster in general. I’m not saying all teachers are bad, or that it’s useless. It just isn’t what it should be.  A big part of the problem is that the majority of those funds are being used for things other than our children’s education. A lot of crooked politicians are fattening their pockets at the children’s expense. This is one of the reasons my parents worked hard to send me to private schools.

Now there seem to be other affordable options when it comes to private schools, but back in the day catholic schools dominated the scene. That’s how I ended to going to various catholic schools over the years. I’ill never forget the first one, Colegio Nuestra Señora de la Merced.

My stay at this school only lasted a couple of years, literally, but the thing I remember the most is my religion teacher. Most of the time in her class was spent singing catholic songs from church. It was the funniest, yet most endearing thing ever. Imagine a group of 6-7 year olds singing church songs, over and over, and over again. Times infinity. And then I’d force my mom to sing them with me in the car on the way home from school, just to make sure I wouldn’t forget them.

Every single day, for two years.
